How to use VLOOKUP formula in Excel?

One of the most powerful formulas in Excel is VLOOKUP because it helps you find elements in long databases.

Although it may seem difficult to use, it is actually very simple.

In any database, in which you want to search for an element, knowing another previously, you can use the VLOOKUP function.

4 elements are necessary for it to work:

Value sought.
Matrix where the search will be performed.
Column indicator.
Organized.
Let's see how it works with an example.

In this database, you want to know the price of an item when entering an ID.

It is important to mention that for VLOOKUP to work, the data you are looking for must be to the right of what is known.

The function would not work if, for example, you wanted to search for the ID by entering the price (unless the columns were moved so that the price is before the ID).

In addition, the known data column must be the first in the database.

To use the formula we write "= VLOOKUP"; in the searched value we can indicate a cell or write it manually.

In this example, we will look for the price of ID A004.

Then we point to the matrix where the search will be made.

Next, the column where the value we want is indicated. In this case the price is in column 3.

Then it gives us the option to enter TRUE or FALSE. The first option is to find an approximate value, but since we almost always know what we are looking for, it is written FALSE.

Ready! Now you will have the price of ID A004.

THANK YOU
